Trained classically, with a Fine art degree from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Penny Saftler has been painting for 40 years. She mastered techniques in oils, pastels, and acrylic paints, creating colorful still lifes and beautiful New England landscapes for most of her adult life. She is enjoying painting abstracts currently.
In 2020 Saftler learned, through an ancestry test she took with her sister, that the father who raised her was not, in fact, her biological father. Both of her parents had passed away years before and this decades old secret left her with so many questions, but no one to answer them. as she grappled with the implications of this on her personal identity she turned to painting in a new way, attempting to dig deeper and sooth her soul. As an artist that had captured objects and natural beauty with an impressionist’s style for so many years, she began to let herself out of that box and to forge a new path for herself artistically.
Penny has Spent years painting for relaxation, self discovery, and joy, but she is only now beginning to share her work publicly. She is excited to start sharing her journey and her belief in the powerful healing capabilities of art.
Off the canvas, Penny has been an Art Consultant for the last 13 years in the greater Boston area. She loves that her work enables Her to discover new artists all over the country. She has two grown daughters that live in Los Angeles, and she currently resides with her husband, Eric, and their Goldendoodle Nala in Foxboro, MA. In their free time they love hosting friends from the neighborhood and taking long walks through the woodland trails that surround their home.
Penny offers private art classes and welcomes commissions.
